A group of five men attacked and robbed another man who was walking in the Fifeville area of the city around noon Monday, authorities said Wednesday.
Police have arrested two of the men who they say assaulted the victim and stripped him of cash and personal items in the 500 block of 7 1/2 Street Southwest, said Charlottesville police spokesman Lt. Ronnie Roberts.
The victim was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center and treated for head wounds, but was not seriously injured in the attack, Roberts said.
Police arrested 47-year-old Gerald Lee Payne and William Johnson Tuesday and charged them with simple assault by mob, a Class 1 Misdemeanor, and felony robbery.
Johnson's age was not immediately available. The two men are in custody at Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail.
