Timothy J. Heaphy, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Virginia, has been appointed by U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. to a two-year term on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee.

Heaphy, who was sworn in to his position in 2009 during a ceremony at the University of Virginia, was one of eight new appointments nationwide to the advisory committee, which advises the federal government’s chief law enforcement officer on policy, operational and management issues.

After serving as an assistant federal prosecutor in D.C. and western Virginia for 12 years, Heaphy spent three years with McGuireWoods LLP in Charlottesville working on white-collar crime cases.

Heaphy is a graduate of UVa and the UVa School of Law, where he has also taught classes.
