An empty seat around the Thanksgiving table has the family of a missing Charlottesville teenager worried.

Police say 19-year-old DaShad Laquinn Smith was last seen on Tuesday evening in the 500 block of West Main Street. He was wearing a black jacket, dark grey sweatpants, a black scarf and grey boots.

Smith’s family enlisted the help of Charlottesville police, who in turn are asking the community for help locating the teen.

“The family is pretty concerned,” said Lt. Ronnie Roberts with the city police. “When a person’s been missing this long, you start to worry.”

The onset of winter weather adds urgency to the situation, Roberts noted.

“We need to help bring this young man home,” he said.

Anyone who has seen or heard from Smith is encouraged to call the police tip line at 977-4000.
