Owners of land within the York and Rappahannock watersheds are eligible for $120,000 in grant funding to support forestry practices that improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay.

Landowners in Greene, Louisa, Madison and Orange counties can receive incentive payments for up to 75 percent of the costs associated with developing forest management plans, establishing forested buffers, planting trees and excluding livestock from wooded areas.

“Forests and farms form the backbone of working lands that sustain and protect our natural resources,” said Jack Bricker, a Natural Resources Conservation Service state conservationist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

For more information about the initiative, visit the conservation service's website at va.nrcs.usda.gov.
