WAYNESBORO — A Nelson County man died Friday in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Waynesboro after fleeing police, authorities said.

Richard Donald Dameron, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2007 Yamaha he was riding struck a tree near the intersection of Keesling Avenue and Lyndhurst Road, Waynesboro police said. He was traveling between 90 and 100 mph at the time of the wreck, authorities said.

An officer was attempting to pull over Dameron and a second motorcyclist for speeding at about 10:20 p.m. when Dameron drove off, authorities said. The second man stopped for the officer.
