University of Virginia police have charged a Scottsville woman for taking an ambulance from UVa Medical Center's emergency department earlier this month.
Authorities on Wednesday charged Laura Jean Aven, 45, with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. She was being held without bond Wednesday at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail, police said.
According to police, Aven is suspected of taking the ambulance, which belonged to the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad, shortly before 4 a.m. on April 17.
The vehicle was found a short time later, unattended, undamaged and with the engine running, a short distance away, at the intersection of Lee Street and Roosevelt Brown Boulevard, according to police.
Aven was set to appear in Albemarle County General District Court on Wednesday to answer the charge, but the case was continued to May 23, according to court records.
Court records also indicate that Aven also faces six other charges in Charlottesville General District Court that are alleged to have occurred on or about April 17. It was not immediately clear Wednesday if the other charges, which include misdemeanor assault and indecent exposure, were related to the ambulance incident. She is due in court May 9 on those charges.
