Traffic in the 900 block of Rugby Road came to a halt Monday night during a Virginia State Police operation.
Agents with state police blocked access to the road between Preston Avenue and Rosser Avenue until 10:30 p.m.
Authorities at the scene said they were under orders not to provide any details to the public.
The investigation is part of an ongoing state police operation involving multiple agencies, state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said.
“We don’t have any information we can release,” she said.
Agents with the state police remained in the area well into the night.
State police at division headquarters in Appomattox said they were not aware of the operation.
According to Lt. Ronnie Roberts with Charlottesville Police, the city's law enforcement agencies were not involved.
