University of Virginia administrators plan slight tuition increases but have eliminated a proposed fee that would have applied to upperclassmen, officials said Monday.

The move follows criticism from members of the university's Board of Visitors, who will consider the proposal later this week. The plan calls for a 3.8-percent increase in tuition and fees for in-state undergraduates and a 4.8-percent increase for out-of-state undergraduates. The numbers, posted on UVa’s website, are the first public look at how the administration has reacted to board criticism.
