The executive council of the University of Virginia's Faculty Senate passed a vote of no confidence in the school's rector, vice rector and Board of Visitors in a resolution released Thursday afternoon.
The resolution also expressed "strong support of President [Teresa A.] Sullivan," who was ousted over the weekend.
"We offer this resolution mindful of the best interests of the university and the Commonwealth," the Faculty Senate council explained.
Council members, meeting in emergency session, voted unanimously for the measure, which comes the day after Rector Helen E. Dragas issued a formal reply to faculty criticism of Sullivan's departure.
Dragas' statement said that the board had maintained an ongoing dialogue but declined too elaborate on the "philosophical differences" that led to the split.
