Waynesboro police are asking for the public’s help in finding a woman wanted on assault and drug charges. Emily Laura Simpson, 20, failed to show up for her trial June 3, on an assault charge. Since that April 10 incident, Simpson has also been arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and is wanted on a felony warrant for possession of methamphetamine.

On May 1, officers responded to a series of accidents on Hopeman Parkway. Simpson was one of the drivers involved in the accidents. She admitted to taking a prescription drug that wasn’t hers and then attempting to make a right turn from North Delphine Avenue onto Hopeman Parkway, in her 2002 Honda Civic. She turned too wide however and hit a 1999 Nissan sedan, driven by an Augusta County woman. Simpson fled the scene, later hitting another car on Hopeman Parkway at the Ivy Street intersection. Other drivers prevented Simpson from fleeing the second crime scene.

Do you support banning chickens in Augusta County's residential neighborhoods?

On Jan. 28, Augusta County Supervisors voted 5-2 to ban chickens from being kept as pets in rural and single family residential areas. Multiple reasons were given for the decision, including preventing the spread of avian flu and less stress for the county's animal control officers.
