The Waynesboro YMCA played host recently to somewhat of an unusual ceremony. A father and daughter both earned their black belt status at the same time. Samantha Cohen and Brian Cohen were promoted to Shodan, or the first degree black belt, after five years of study at the Waynesboro Chikubu-Kai dojo.

“It has been a great joy being Brian and Samantha’s sensei (teacher),” instructor Tony Cooper said. “I look forward to seeing their progression for years to come.  Their new journey has just begun.”

The Waynesboro School Board plans to make a decision over the next few months about the future of Waynesboro High, either to rebuild it at the current location or move it to a new site. To rebuild, the cost is $46 million. To relocate, it will cost $73.6 million, plus whatever the cost of the new land is.
