Church celebrates 30 years
Valley Baptist Church in Stuarts Draft turns 30 this year and will celebrate Dec. 8 with a special 10:30am service. The church, first known as Barterbrook Baptist, changed its name 10 years ago when a new building was constructed in Stuarts Draft. Also next week, Valley Baptist will present the Christmas musical Star of Hope at 7pm on Friday, Dec. 6 and then on Sunday, Dec. 8. The public is invited. Church plans Thanksgiving service
First Church of Christ, Scientist, will hold its annual Thanksgiving Day Service on Thursday, Nov. 28 starting at 10:30am. The church is located at 1011 Northgate Avenue in Waynesboro. There will be readings from the Christian Science pastor, the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Knuckleboom truck going through Ward D
Waynesboro’s knuckleboom truck is currently collecting debris in Ward D. During this time, the public works department asks residents in Ward A to start placing their debris out for collection. Currently, the knuckleboom service will pick up furniture, appliances, two tires per household, bagged grass clippings, carpeting removed from one room, non-asbestos roof shingles, brush from yard cleanup and grindable wood, as well as do it yourself construction or demolition debris. The service also picks up tree limbs no longer than 4 feet, 2 feet wide and 2 feet high, with a maximum weight of 75 pounds and a diameter of 2 inches.
Café hosts lunch with Santa
Waynesboro’s Boardwalk Café, 2556 Jefferson Highway, will host lunch with Santa on Sunday, Dec. 8. The event will run from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. For $10, kids get a hot dog lunch, watch Steve the Magic Guy’s holiday show and then meet Santa. Each child can pose for pictures with Santa, who will also read “Twas the Night Before Christmas” and hand out goodie bags. Doors open that Sunday at 1pm. For more information, call (540)-941-8224.
Women’s’ Connection looks to share gifts
Valley Women’s Connection of the Greater Staunton Area will hold its annual “Sharing our Gifts” luncheon on Wednesday, Dec. 11. The event will run from 11am until 11pm at Gypsy Hill Place, 300 Churchville Avenue, in the Winter Garden Room. Diane and Company will provide music for the event, with inspirational speaker Marvetta Cummings also expected. The cost of lunch and the presentations is $17, with reservations required by Friday, Dec. 6. Free child care is offered, with a shuttle service from the parking lot to the entrance available.
