Lillian Leona Jones Burton Mrs. Lillian Leona Jones Burton, 97, of North Garden, Virgiia, departed this life on Friday, January 10, 2014, at her home in North Garden. Leona was born on December 19, 1916. She was the daughter of the late John Whiting and Leslie Jones-Cutler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Burton; three brothers, Albert, Alonzo, and Primas Cutler; and two sisters, Latisha Matlock and Louise Adams. Her precious memories will be forever cherished by those she loved: three children, Carolyn Byers and her husband, Curtis, and Charles Burton, all of North Garden, and Charlotte Burton of Charlottesville; three granddaughters, Gayle Davis and her husband, William, and Adrienne Burton, all of North Garden, and Megan Burton of Charlottesville; three great- granddaughters, Jamari Byers-Davis of North Garden, Nya Ameen-Burton and Natoria Brown of Charlottesville; one sister, Elise Davis and her husband, Leroy, of New Jersey; three cousins, Marie J. Carter of North Garden, Mary Alice Sims of Greenwood, and Ellen Whitlock of Charlottesville; and a host of other relatives and special friends. Leona was a member of Zion Baptist Church in North Garden, Virginia. She served on the Missionary Circle, Sunshine Club, the Usher Board, the Willing Workers Club, and the Women's Ministry. Leona worked for Mrs. Elizabeth Scott at Bundoran Farm for more than 30 years. She also worked at Red Hill School in North Garden, as a custodian for more than 15 years. The family would like to thank Curtis Chapman of North Garden, for his devotion and care of Leona. A funeral service will be held at Zion Baptist Church, North Garden, Virginia, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014, with the Reverend Mary Byers officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held at a later date. Charitable donations can be made in memory of Leona to the Brandon Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 252, North Garden, VA 22959. J. F.     Mrs. Burton was a lovely, elegant, caring person whom we were all priviledged to know.
