Lillian and I send our condolences to the Larner family at this unexpected news. Joe Larner was among the first people I met in being recruited to UVa, and may have been the most responsible of all in overcoming some of the hurdles that led me to accept. He was also directly responsible for much of my success, in his facilitating the recruitment of at least four of the new faculty with scientific interests and goals. Those were pursued in collaboration with members of his department, including both of the Nobel winners and also Michael Peach and Kevin Lynch. I always considered him a friend as well as a colleague, and have been especially impressed at his continuing scientific pursuits after "retirement". And then, of course, there is our shared love and that of our families for Wellfleet. He will be greatly missed.

Obituary Search Tips

  • Enter a full name, a last name (confirm the spelling) and/or keywords in the search box.

If your search is unsuccessful, try removing the first name. The person's known name may not be the name on record.

Try adding quotation marks to a keyword phrase for an exact match, or simply search by date or date-range for broader results.
