Haston Richard "Hawk" Monroe Sr. Haston Richard "Hawk" Monroe Sr. of Charlottesville, Virginia, was called home on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born on January 16, 1938, in Charlottesville, Virginia, the son of the late Clarence B. Monroe and Josephine S. Monroe. One sister, Gloria Monroe; and one brother, "Dinky" Monroe, also preceded him in death. Haston was baptized at the First Baptist Church on West Main Street at an early age. He attended Burley High School where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. He was employed at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia for many years. After his retirement from Pennsylvania, he was employed at the Sperry Marie in Charlottesville. Haston was married to Clarice Payne Monroe for 45 years. In addition to his loving and devoted wife, Clarice, he is survived by four sons, Haston Richard Monroe Jr., Randolph Monroe and wife, Kay, and Craig Lawson of Charlottesville, and Lloyd D. Payne and wife, Betty, of Newark, Deleware; three daughters, Anita Monroe, Denise Turner and husband, John, and Deborah Eddins of Charlottesville; one God daughter, Betty Sims of Charlottesville; one sister, Shirley M. Smith of Charlottesville; numerous grand and great- grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Thelma P. Carey and husband, Norbert, of Charlottesville, and Florine Nicholson of Chicago, Illinois; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins; two devoted friends, James "Penie" Smith and James Banks of Charlottesville; one devoted cousin, Willie "Buddy" Jefferson of Charlottesville; and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at the First Baptist Church, 632 West Main Street, with Pastor Hodari Hamilton officiating and the Reverend Kay Monroe assisting. J.
