Ralph Frazier Smith Sr. Ralph Frazier Smith Sr. of Charlottesville, Virginia, was called home on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at the Hospice House on Park Street. He was born on July 18, 1930, in Charlottesville, Virginia, the son of the late Thomas E. Smith and Margaret Rogers Smith. Three brothers, Thomas, James and Rudolph Smith also preceded him in death. Ralph was baptized at Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age. He attended Jefferson High School and Burley High; and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1956. He was employed at the University of Virginia Medical Center for many years until his retirement. Ralph was married to Shirley Monroe Smith and would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on September 27, 2013. In addition to his loving and devoted wife, Shirley, he is survived by three sons, Ralph F. Smith Jr. and wife, Anita, of Killeen Texas, Earl R. Smith and wife, Mary, of Harker Heights, Texas, and Jerome Parson of Charlottesville; two daughters, Valerie S. Dudley of Silver Springs, Maryland, and Gloria S. Maupin of Charlottesville; two sisters, Margaret A. Harrison of Denver, Colorado, and Doris S. Johnson and husband, Joseph, of Charlottesville; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Richard Monroe and wife, Clarice, of Charlottesville; two sisters-in-law, Mary Smith of Charlottesville, and Shirley Smith of West Chester, Ohio; one uncle, Paul J. Dickerson and wife, Margie, of El Paso, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Pastor Lehman Bates officiating. J. F.
