Thomas Wilson Smith Thomas Wilson Smith of Charlottesville, Virginia, who was affectionately called "Pops" by his children, entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 22, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Albemarle County, February 27, 1922, to the late William F. and Helen S. Smith. He was the loving husband of the late Heloise Monroe Smith. Mr. Smith was educated in the Albemarle County public school system and graduated from Jefferson High School. He was a United States Navy veteran and served in World War II. Mr. Smith was employed by the University of Virginia and retired after 39 years of service. In 1974, he married Heloise, and they remained happily married until her death in 1997. At an early age, Mr. Smith dedicated his life to Christ and joined Rose Hill Baptist Church. He was a devoted and committed member serving in various ministries for many years before his declining health made it impossible for him to continue. He was Deacon emeritus at Rose Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosa S. Harris and Helen S. Wesley; and five brothers, Edward, Warren, Hampton, James, and Joseph Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, William Monroe and wife the Reverend Savola and Evangelist George Monroe Sr. and wife, Antoinette, both of Charlottesville, Virginia; three daughters, Delois M. Terrell and husband, Johnny, of Washington, D.C., Evangelist Marilyn Monroe and Mary M. Megginson and husband, Jeffrey, of Charlottesville, Virginia; three sisters-in-law, Frances Fortune of Charlottesville, Virginia; Ophelia L. Smith and Lottie Smith of Albemarle County, Virginia; and a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday November 29, 2013, at Rose Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Earl Pendleton officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. With grateful appreciation the family acknowledges Ms. Theresa "Tee" Watkins, "special daughter" and caregiver to Pops. The family also deeply appreciates and recognizes the Hospice of the Piedmont for the tender care and support provided to Mr. Smith and his family. J. F. Bell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary Search Tips

  • Enter a full name, a last name (confirm the spelling) and/or keywords in the search box.

If your search is unsuccessful, try removing the first name. The person's known name may not be the name on record.

Try adding quotation marks to a keyword phrase for an exact match, or simply search by date or date-range for broader results.
