Emma Louise Walker Emma Louise Walker of Charlottesville, Virginia, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the blessed age of 93. Emma was a believer in her Savior and the promise of heaven, so rather than say she has departed we announce she has arrived. She was born on June 14, 1920, in Albemarle County, to the late Scott and Ellen Wright-Washington. Emma was a very loving and free spirited woman who always put others first in her life; she was one of the last living of 17 siblings and she was always finding ways to take care and support each of them. Emma was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, Retired Army Sargeant, Cecil W. Walker; a devoted sister, Levonia Washington; and her many other siblings; a son-in-law, Robert Hill Sr.; and a great- great-granddaughter, Janesha Hill. She received her formal education in the Albemarle County school system and retired after many years of service at the University of Virginia. Emma loved her church and singing in the church choir, Emma was one of the first devoted members of Pilgrim Baptist Church. Leaving to cherish her beautiful memory is her loving daughter, Sarah Hill; four grandchildren, Patricia Hill Poindexter and her husband, Roland, Joan Hill who took much loving care of her grandmother until she passed, Robert Hill Jr. and his wife, Debra, and Sandra Hill; five great- grandchildren, Tamika Johnson and her husband, Michael, Shaquandra, Chelsie, Adam, and Andrea; one great-great- granddaughter, Anita, all of Charlottesville; one brother-in-law, Simon Walker of Earlysville, Virginia; four sisters-in-law, Carrie Wood, Roberta King, and Bertha Paige of Washington, D.C., and Marie Brown of Silver Spring, Maryland; one special great-niece, Augustine Ragland; and a number of nieces, nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 211 Albemarle Street, with the Reverend Carter officiating and the Reverend Chauncy Brown will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, Virginia. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. J. F. Bell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.jfbellfuneralhome.com.
