Edward "Eddie" Cecil Wood Edward "Eddie" Cecil Wood born on August 17, 1951, in Charlottesville, Virginia, left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 5, 2013. He was exactly where he wanted to be, surrounded by his family and friends at his home in Crozet, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father, A.C. Wood; and his mother, Joyce Melton Wood. Also his two sisters-in-law, Karen P. Shifflett of Crozet, and Dorothy Wood of Oklahoma. He leaves his wife, Marilyn, behind to cherish 31 years of fond memories. He also left this life with two children to grieve. A daughter, Allison Wood of Crozet, Virginia; and a son, Chad Wood of Crozet and his wife, Courtney, whom he thought of as his daughter. He was the proudest Pop-Pop of three beautiful grandchildren, Chase, Cara and Cole, all of Crozet, Virginia. The unending smiles that they brought to him were unmentionable. He believed that God came first and should be the center of all things especially family. He always put everyone before himself. His family was his life. Eddie also leaves two brothers, Charles "Chuck" Wood of Oklahoma, and Robert "Bobby" Clore of Oregon; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bryant of Crozet, Virginia, and Gail Pritt of Ruckersville, Virginia; and three brothers-in-law, Charles "Tuna" Shifflett of Crozet, Virginia, Joseph Pritt of Ruckersville, Virginia, and Jerry Pritt of Maryland; two aunts, Margaret Melton of Ruckersville, Virginia, and Phyllis Melton of Afton, Virginia; two of his greatest friends, Glace Deane, and Ann "Shorty" Shifflett, both of Charlottesville, Virginia. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many friends whom he prayed would meet him in heaven one day. Eddie worked two jobs for 30+ years at the University of Virginia Physical Plant and 20+ years at Western Albemarle High School until his illness forced him to retire. He cherished all the years he worked at both jobs and the memories made with his coworkers. He didn't have a bad word to say about anyone. He was truly a friend to all he met. Eddie accepted God into his life at the age of 30 under the direction of the Reverend Cecil Deal while attending Nortonsville Church of God. After marrying Marilyn he joined Commonwealth Christian Community (formerly known as Victory Hill Church of God and Crozet Church of God) where he served as a song leader, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, usher, trustee, and on the financial board. The family thanks everyone for your visits, gifts, and prayers. We want to extend a special thank you to a special friend and amazing caregiver, Tonya Hicks, and her family. Eddie loved her so much. She was a blessing to us as she helped around the clock. We couldn't have gotten through this without her. We would also like to thank the University of Virginia Cancer Center and Hospice of the Piedmont for their continued care and support. Family night will be on Saturday, September 7, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Commonwealth Christian Community. The funeral will also be held at Commonwealth Christian Community on Sunday, September 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Rock Gate Cemetery in Crozet, Virginia. Funeral services will be entrusted to Anderson Funeral Home in Crozet, Virginia. andersonfuneralservice@gmail.com.

I will miss him so much. It was always a great joy to be around Eddie and he always lifted my spirits more than he ever knew.

Truly a great man and truly a man of God. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

    Much love,

    Ed Pierce
