An apparent road rage incident in Orange County resulted in a shooting on Sunday, according to authorities.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call around 6:45 p.m. Sunday for a shooting on U.S. 33, and arrived on scene to find 31-year-old Joshua Haislip lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the neck. The suspect, 69-year-old Dallas Wayne Crickenberger of Ruckersville, was still at the site of the incident, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities said Crickenberger was being followed on U.S. 33 and being tailgated by Haislip. Crickenberger became angry about the way Haislip was driving, and eventually a confrontation ensued that escalated into a physical altercation.
Authorities said Crickenberger reached in his truck and pulled out a handgun and shot Haislip in the neck. At that point, his vehicle had been blocked by two witnesses, and Crickenberger threatened to shoot them if they did not allow him to leave, the sheriff’s office said.
As of late Sunday, Haislip’s injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
Crickenberger has been charged with two counts of brandishing a firearm, one count of a use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and one count of malicious wounding. He is being held in the Central Virginia Regional Jail without bond.
