Grant to benefit summer learning sessions

Because of a recent grant from Wells Fargo, more students in Fluvanna County will have the opportunity to participate in a summer learning session, regardless of their family’s income level. In December, Fluvanna County Public Schools received a $1,000 grant from the Pantops Branch of Wells Fargo, which will be used to offer scholarships to the Summer Enrichment Classes.

17 Named AP Scholars for Fluvanna

Seventeen Fluvanna County High School students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams during the 2012-13 school year.

Central Trunk or Treat Success

Central Elementary and West Central Primary Schools held its Inaugural Trunk or Treat on Oct. 25. There was a huge outpouring of support from the community. There were almost 70 decorated trunks and more than 250 kids in attendance for the event. Fork Union Military Academy cadets volunteered, and Kent’s Store Fire Department, Virginia State Police, ABC Preschool, Fluvanna High School Athletic clubs, along with parents, grandparents, teachers and staff participated. Papa Johns was on hand and provided pizza. All candy was donated. It was a huge success.

Flucos in Battle of the Brains

In the spring 2013, seven students on the Scholastic Team took the Battle of the Brains 40-question written test and based on the results the Battle of the Brains producers chose Fluvanna to participate in the contest. On Oct. 3, Fluvanna County High School’s Scholastic Team traveled to Richmond to compete in Battle of the Brains.

FCHS Students Earn Merit Commendation

Fluvanna County High School announced today that Alyssa McIver and Brandon Shelton have been named Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented to these scholastically talented seniors.

Calvary Christian Honor Roll Announced

Calvary Christian School announces its honor roll students for the 2013-14 first quarter. Principal’s Honor Roll students must maintain an average of 95 percent or higher on all academic subjects, and Honor Roll students must maintain an average of 89 percent or higher. Calvary Christian School is a ministry of Calvary Baptist Church in New Canton.
