Central Trunk or Treat Success

Central Elementary and West Central Primary Schools held its Inaugural Trunk or Treat on Oct. 25. There was a huge outpouring of support from the community. There were almost 70 decorated trunks and more than 250 kids in attendance for the event. Fork Union Military Academy cadets volunteered, and Kent’s Store Fire Department, Virginia State Police, ABC Preschool, Fluvanna High School Athletic clubs, along with parents, grandparents, teachers and staff participated. Papa Johns was on hand and provided pizza. All candy was donated. It was a huge success.

Flucos in Battle of the Brains

In the spring 2013, seven students on the Scholastic Team took the Battle of the Brains 40-question written test and based on the results the Battle of the Brains producers chose Fluvanna to participate in the contest. On Oct. 3, Fluvanna County High School’s Scholastic Team traveled to Richmond to compete in Battle of the Brains.

FCHS Students Earn Merit Commendation

Fluvanna County High School announced today that Alyssa McIver and Brandon Shelton have been named Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented to these scholastically talented seniors.

Calvary Christian Honor Roll Announced

Calvary Christian School announces its honor roll students for the 2013-14 first quarter. Principal’s Honor Roll students must maintain an average of 95 percent or higher on all academic subjects, and Honor Roll students must maintain an average of 89 percent or higher. Calvary Christian School is a ministry of Calvary Baptist Church in New Canton.

Red Ribbon Week

Carysbrook Elementary is participating in Red Ribbon Week with 80 million other children and adults the last week of October. The week celebrates a commitment to being drug free. At Carysbrook, the students show their support of the effort run by Tamika Carter, guidance counselor, by dressing the part. On “Team Up Against Drugs” day, students wear a team jersey. On “Turn Your Back on Drugs” day, students wear their clothes backwards. ”Being Drug Free is No Sweat” day will have students wearing their sweatsuits.

Read for the Record

Students at Carysbrook participated in Read for the Record by listening to an audio version of “Otis” by Loren Long over the intercom on Oct, 3. As they listened, students pictured Otis (a tractor). Students drew Otis and entered their drawings in a contest.

Oakland School Rivanna River Clean up

On Oct. 5 Oakland School students, staff, alumni, and family members will be participating in the Annual Rivanna River Clean-Up. Participants picked up trash inside the river and around the popular Rivanna Trail and Riverview Park. This is something the school does each fall. Oakland School is committed to keeping the community beautiful!
