VIRGINIA

Record: 47-10, NCAA at-large selection

Head coach: Brian O’Connor (10th season at UVa; 458-159-2)

NCAA history: 13th appearance, two College World Series appearances (2009, 2011)

Projected lineup: LF Mike Papi, 1B Jared King, RF Joe McCarthy, CF Brandon Downes, DH Derek Fisher, 2B Reed Gragnani, SS Nick Howard, 3B Kenny Towns, C Nate Irving.

Fast facts: Senior right fielder Tyler Molinaro is an Albemarle High School graduate. Molinaro leads the Seahawks in home runs with 11 and is fourth in the CAA in that category. ...UNCW beat then-No. 1 North Carolina, 9-8, on April 23 in Chapel Hill. It was the Tar Heels’ lone non-conference loss of the season. ...UNCW took the CAA regular season title for a second straight year. For the eighth time in their program’s history, the Seahawks were the No. 1 seed in the CAA Tournament.

ELON

Record: 32-28, NCAA automatic bid by virtue of SoCon Tournament title

Head coach: Mike Kennedy (17th season at Elon; 575-406-3)

NCAA history: Sixth appearance

Fast facts: Junior lefty Spencer Medick is a Woodberry Forest product. The 6-foot-3, 208-pounder is 7-6 with a 5.09 ERA this season. ...This is Elon’s 14th season as a Division I program. ...In winning the SoCon Tournament, the Phoenix had to win six games in five days. It became the second team in the history of the event to lose its first game and then take the crown.

ARMY

Record: 29-21, NCAA automatic bid by virtue of the Patriot League Tournament title

Head coach: Joe Sottolano (14th season at Army; 391-284)

NCAA history: Sixth appearance

Projected lineup: RF Jon Crucitti, 3B Harold Earls, SS Alex Jensen, DH Mark McCants, 1B Patrick Mescher, CF Jacob Page, C Andrew Johnson, LF Michael Sands, 2B Grant Van Orden.

Projected rotation: RHP Chris Rowley, RHP Alex Robinett, TBA.

Fast facts: Army is back in the Charlottesville Regional for a second consecutive year. The Black Knights lost both games in 2012, including a 9-1 downer to Virginia. ...Army associate head coach Matt Reid is the son of former UVa football defensive coordinator Jim Reid. ... Despite winning the Patriot League Tournament in 1997, the Black Knights didn’t advance to the NCAAs. The league didn’t receive an automatic bid that season, forcing Army to battle Ivy League champ Harvard in a best of three “play-in” series. The Knights lost the series.
