Now that we are in the middle of the summer, you may find your golf ball sitting on hard dirt around the green. The most important reminder when hitting a pitch shot off hardpan is to make sure you hit the ball first because there is not much room for error off hardpan. I would suggest the following techniques:
1. Choose a pitching wedge instead of a sand wedge and aim the club squarely at your target.
2. The ball should be played more towards your back foot and your hands ahead of the ball.
3. Your weight should be slightly more on your front leg.
4. Make your normal swing with your lead hand and arm coming down and through the ball.
Good luck and remember to practice this shot before trying it in a round of golf.
