Former NFL All-Pro defensive lineman and Monticello High School assistant football and track coach Wilbur Young passed away on Saturday, July 5, at the age of 67 at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Born in New York, Young starred in football at the high-school level and went on to play collegiately at William Penn College in Iowa.
He was drafted in the second round of the 1971 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played for seven seasons. He earned All-Pro honors at left defensive tackle in 1979 for the San Diego Chargers, part of a five-year stint with the team. He also played for the Washington Redskins in 1981 and the Arizona Wranglers of the USFL in 1984.
