A two-vehicle collision on Sperryville Pike Friday night took the life of Culpeper native James Henry Mack, Jr., according to Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Les Tyler.
Mack, 32, was northbound on Sperryville Pike (Rt. 522) around 9:30 p.m. in a 2004 Mitsubishi Diamante when he struck a southbound 1995 Mercury Marquis about 1/10 of a mile north of Stonehouse Mountain Road (Rt. 633).
Mack's Diamante ran off the right side of the road, crashing through at least one fence and striking several trees before overturning and coming to rest on its roof mere feet from a residence in the 9000 block of Sperryville Pike. Tyler said Mack was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Tyler, Mack was not wearing a seat belt, and it was unclear Saturday morning if alcohol was involved.
Tyler also said no injuries were reported by the unnamed driver in the Marquis.
Trooper J.T. Custer responded to the scene Friday, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
