An electrical fire at the Rochester Corp. plant in Culpeper caused an estimated $750,000 in damage, according to Culpeper County Volunteer Fire Dept. Chief 1-1 Bruce Stark.

Stark said 10 fire companies from Culpeper, Orange and Fauquier counties were called out to the industrial fire around 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Stark said the fire occurred in a fiber optics room and firefighters were advised that a 55 gallon drum of hydrochloride was in the vicinity.

"We knocked down the fire quickly with the help of the sprinkler system," Stark said.

Stark said the fire caused an estimated $750,000 in damage.

Two EMS squads assisted at the scene, and the building was ventilated before employees were allowed back in.
