A franchise out of Tampa, Florida, active since 2007, Acti-Kare opened in Culpeper April 1 of this year.  Acti-Kare is a home based business that allows seniors to stay home longer and continue to live a quality life by providing companions to assist them with daily activities so that they can maintain their independence.

Area director, Steven Jewell,  said their main focus is to provide “truly compassionate caregivers on a one to one basis.”  Being able to provide one caregiver per patient allows consistency in care and a more positive client/companion relationship.  “We carefully screen to be sure they (customer care specialist) have a compassion for people.  It’s gotta be the right person,” said Jewell.

Offering long term and short term companionship in homes, nursing homes and in hospitals customer care specialist, Linda Lamb, said assistance could be as simple as allowing a caregiver a night out or a vacation.  “We can cover that and provide caregivers a break by providing respite care,” said Lamb, currently one of two customer care specialists with Acti-Kare.  Joann Smith, who invested in Acti-Kare with Jewell, is the other customer care specialist.

Acti-Kare staff assist and provide services for senior centers in Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison, Orange and Fauquier counties.  A growing company, the customer care specialists provide home support in ten counties, including Stafford, Spotsylvania and Leesburg.  Targeting churches to get the word out about their organization they are also working with Aging Together and Hospice to grow their clientele.

Ron Rankin, manager of Culpeper Home Medical, hosted Acti-Kare this past Wednesday and has pledged to support the organization and its clients.  “This is the second time we have hosted them as they provide blood pressure checks,” said Rankin.  “We support their clients too as they continue to get established, as far as equipment and medical needs.”

Lamb acknowledges that the Culpeper County Library is a strong supporter of Acti-Kare as well, providing facilities for presentations and also allowing blood pressure checks there.

Lamb invites the community to follow them on Facebook and Twitter.  More information can be found on their website, or contact them at 540-727-0024.

“We are highly competitive in our prices,” said Jewell adding, “When you can’t be with a loved one; we can.”
