The Library of Congress Packard Campus salutes the men and women of the military this month in honor of Memorial Day with various wartime movie screenings in the theater.

The venue on Mount Pony also hosts its very first live musical act in May.

The free films start tonight with "So Proudly We Hail" (Paramount, 1943) about three nurses returning from the war in the Philippines. The movie starring Claudette Colbert, Paulette Goddard and Veronica Lake is told in flashback when their Hawaii-bound ship is diverted after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Friday night, it's "Heroes for Sale" (First National/Warner Bros., 1933), a social drama about a World War I wounded veteran struggling to survive the aftermath of his service as a civilian. With Loretta Young.

Saturday in the theater on Mount Pony see "What Price Glory" (Twentieth Century Fox, 1952), a World War I comedy drama set in 1918 France. The John Ford-directed movie stars James Cagney.

Other military-themed movies screening this month on the Packard Campus include 1990's "Memphis Belle" on May 11; Charlie Chaplin's "Shoulder Arms" (First National, 1918) on May 17 and on May 23 "Flags of Our Fathers" (Paramount, 2006).

May 10 is going to be a very special evening in the LOC theater in Culpeper with The Quebe Sisters Band live in concert. When Grace, Sophia and Hulda Quebe raise their fiddles and play, audiences are said to marvel.

The Texas-based trio has played at the Grand Ole Opry, Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center and recently concluded a Russian tour co-sponsored by the LOC American Folklife Center.

"This is a big deal for us, and they are a very, very good act," said Rob Stone, moving images curator on the Packard Campus.

  A full house is expected.
