READER'S VIEWS: Proposed noise ordinance: Presumed innocent – not in Culpeper County

There has been much written concerning the proposed noise ordinance which will increase the hours of quiet time from 9 to 14 hours(standard time), starting at 6PM as well as lowering the acceptable decibel level to 65db. While you may agree or disagree with the longer hours of quiet time, one part of the ordinance which has not been discussed much is the guilt aspect.

The Star Exponent’s July 27 editorial nicely sums up what this election is all about:, voters want new ideas and solutions, not more of the rehashed rhetoric that we have all; we’ve seen those straw men all before.

FRESH & LOCAL: Culpeper County’s proposed noise ordinance
Posted: August 29, 2014

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about how Fauquier County tried to use their noise ordinance to terminate a 14-year-old boy’s small business raising chickens and selling eggs.  The details of that story are worth retelling.

READER'S VIEWS: Robin Williams’ battle with Bipolar Disorder
Posted: August 29, 2014

Robin Williams’ passing reminds us that mental illness, particularly Bipolar Disorder can be deadly serious.  If there was ever a poster child for this manic depression, he would be Mr. Williams.  His mind seemingly processed thoughts many times faster than the average person.  This “maniac” could somehow articulate these frantic thoughts more quickly than about anyone in the public eye.  Unfortunately, this mania often has an evil downside; severe depression.

Reader's Views: Former supervisor is against noise ordinance
Posted: August 28, 2014

I read Dr. Michael Watt’s commentary on the proposed Noise Ordinance, and I appreciate its clarity.  He outlines the proposed changes, and he states his concerns.  I share his concerns, and I urge our Board of Supervisors to not support a new noise ordinance.
