If you have been in Culpeper any length of time, there is a very high probability that you have been to the park in the center of town, Yowell Meadow Park. This park has been a beloved place for relaxation and exercise, family events, sporting events and the big July 4th celebration. Unfortunately, it is also a well-known flooding area.

If there is one thing Culpeper is known for, it’s our sense of community — we proved that during the first two Give Local Piedmont events when we raised nearly $1.4 million, which benefitted our region’s nonprofits. We know our residents will step up again on May 3 to give generously to community causes that touch their hearts.

Even if the decision by Culpeper officials to reject the mosque-associated permit was religiously motivated, they acted consistently with their federal and state constitutions.

It requires a leap of faith to consider the board of supervisors’ recent denial of a pump and haul (p & h) permit to be religious discrimination. Everyone, no matter their religious affiliation, should respect health and safety regulations.
