St. Anne’s-Belfield senior lacrosse player Emmett Barger has been named a 2019 Under Armour All-American, the school announced on Thursday.
Barger, who has committed to play lacrosse at Notre Dame, joins STAB teammate Connor Shellenberger on the All-America team. Shellenberger, a Virginia commit, was previously named to the squad.
Both Barger and Shellenberger will represent STAB in the Under Armour All-American game on June 29 at Homewood Field in Baltimore. The game, which is in its 14th year, features the top 44 high school senior lacrosse players in the country.
“I am so happy for both Emmett and Connor for this well-deserved recognition,” STAB coach Bo Perriello said. “Both have been incredible student-athletes for the school and will continue to represent our program for years to come. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such great players and excited for both Charlottesville and for the school program to have two of the top 44 players in the nation playing here and positively impacting the next generation of local lacrosse players.”
Barger and Shellenberger helped lead the Saints to an appearance in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I state semifinals this season.
The All-American selection wasn’t the only honor Barger received this week. The 2018 Central Virginia boys lacrosse player of the year also has been selected to try out for the United States’ Under-19 lacrosse team this summer.
Barger will be one of the 105 boys lacrosse players invited to try out for the team. The players invited come from 20 different states and include current college and high school players.
