This week’s Buzz Bites include details about an inaugural honey and mead festival, a new hotel lobby bar and a new Tuesday evening salsa bar.

Sweet history

Hill Top Berry Farm and Winery in Nellysford will present its inaugural Honey and Mead Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. It’s an opportunity to learn all about honey and taste what makes each kind unique. There will be a flight of mead styles to show how versatile the world’s oldest alcohol can be.

Browse the craft vendors’ wares and catch live music by the Little Mountain Boys from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Tobacco Road Band from 3 to 6 p.m. Get all the particulars at or (434) 361-1266.

Chateau Lobby Bar and Oakhurst Cafe

Charlottesville’s Oakhurst Inn has opened a new extension called Oakhurst Hall, which is home to Chateau Lobby Bar. The bar will serve specialty cocktails from bar manager Ali Sevindi, beer on tap from Reason Beer and an extensive wine list.

Sevindi’s cocktails will include French 1705, which features Tanqueray, St. Germain, fresh lemon juice and cherry; and Highland Mule, which combines Virginia Highland Chardonnay Cask Whiskey with ginger beer and fresh lime.

Small plates will include duck liver pate, foie gras, chicarrons and charcuterie and cheese. An outdoor pizza oven will bake artisan pizzas.

Looking for a more substantial meal? Oakhurst Cafe, led by chef de cuisine Gisela Corradero Rivera, will serve breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, with coffee offered until 3 p.m., and brunch from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends.

Homemade salsa bar

Bold Rock Cider will present its Fiesta on the Farm event from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and again on June 11, 18 and 25.

Margarita fans can order Bold Rock-a-Ritas, which combine Bold Rock’s VA Apple with fresh lime, orange zest and agave nectar.

A drink purchase comes with access to the chips and salsa bar, where salsa verde, salsa roja and pico de gallo await. Look for weekly taco specials, too. Vincent Zorn will provide the guitar music from 5 to 8 p.m. Go to to get all the details, or dial (434) 361-1030.
