Highland is offering three new tours of President James Monroe’s home.
The tours, presented at 2 and 4 p.m., are Furnishing a New Nation on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday; Rediscovering Highland on Wednesday and Sunday; and Founding Friendships on Monday and Thursday.
Furnishing a New Nation looks at the historical significance of the Monroes’ original furnishings and the use of style in early American politics. Rediscovering Highland explores how archaeology, architectural clues and written accounts led to the remains of Monroe’s 1799 home. Founding Friendships focuses on Monroe’s relationships with fellow founding presidents George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and John Quincy Adams.
The original Welcome to Highland tour is offered daily.
The tours are included in Highland’s admission price. Learn more online at highland.org/plan-your-visit/tours-and-tickets/.
