The annual Greene County farmers market will kick-off this Saturday in a new, temporary location in the parking lot next to the County Administration Building.
Formerly located in front of Tractor Supply on U.S. Route 33 in Ruckersville, the market will temporarily move to the parking lot on Celt Road until construction of the Greene Commons is completed.
Current vendors for the market include:
- Blue Ridge Coffee Crafters
- Cair Paravel Farmstead and Lodging
- Donut Kitchen
- Fat Owl Farm Pasta
- Little Brook Farm
- Little Garden of Eat’
- Saint Isidore Homestead
- Art Guild of Greene
- Rapidan River Master Gardeners
The farmers market will remain open every Saturday until Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. - noon.
When completed this June, the 70-foot by 30-foot covered pavilion located behind the county administration building will host events like the farmers market and more.
“Every time I go out there, there’s progress,” Greene Commons Group President Alan Yost said. “The whole purpose was to create a gathering place for the entire community.”
Ground broke on the new pavilion and bandstand on Sept. 12, 2018, after receiving a grant from the Stanardsville Area Revitalization (STAR). Yost said he hopes when the Greene Commons opens it becomes an anchor for bigger events in the community.
“The vision is there will be concerts and festivals to bring the community together,” he said. “There are so many different opportunities to grow and for new festivals.”
