American Legion Post 128 conducts raffle ticket sales on several Saturdays at Walmart in Ruckersville. The group is raffling off money as prizes. The winner will be announced at the Greene County Courthouse at the end of the 4th of July parade. Sale dates are April 27, May 11, May 18, June 8, June 22 and June 29.

Spring Hill Baptist Church in Ruckersville holds its ninth annual Spring Fling and Bone Marrow Drive at Dover-Foxcroft Farm on Saturday, April 27. The event is free to the community and includes kid-friendly activities such as an Easter egg hunt with more than 10,000 eggs, music, moonbounces, face painting and more, in addition to being tested as a possible bone marrow donor.

Greene County Democrats invite the public for a potluck dinner on Sunday, April 28, from 5-7 p.m. to discuss initiatives for 2019 at the Grace Episcopal Church Hall, 97 Main St. in Stanardsville. The Greene County Virginia Amateur Radio Club will meet at the Blue Ridge Café on Thursday, May 2 at 6 p.m. All ham radio operators and those wishing to become hams are welcome.


On Thursday, May 2, from 9:30 a.m.–2 p.m. Greene County’s Office of Children’s Services will provide informational materials on suicide prevention and limited free snacks to the public at Stanardsville’s PVCC location in honor of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day on May 6.

Celebrate the Earth with the Team Sierra Earth Day 5k run and 2 mile walk on Saturday, May 4. The race will be held at Hoover Ridge Park in Madison at 8 a.m. Cost is $30 for adults and $20 for children and includes a t-shirt for those registered by April 22. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Sierra Club, an environmental organization dedicated to protecting the planet. Fly an American Flag in memory of those who gave all in serving our country or in honor of those who serve and have served in our military. Flags will be displayed surrounding the Memorial Statue in front of the American Legion Post 128 building and fly on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veteran’s Day. The cost to fly a flag on all three dates is $25. Proceeds will support gifts for Veterans living at the VA center. The Greene County Singers are looking for an accomplished pianist for their group for the fall rehearsals and concerts. The group practices on Thursday evenings from September-November and holds concerts the first two Sundays in December.
