UCA graduation 2019

United Christian Academy graduates celebrate their accomplishment on Saturday, May 25, in Ruckersville.

The United Christian Academy in Ruckersville graduated 25 seniors early Saturday morning. Of the 25 graduates 10 received advance diplomas and six maintained a 4.0 grade point average or higher.

Seniors KayLee Shipp and DeAnna Roach sang a duet to begin the service.

Salutatorian Joel Kennon offered a challenge to the Class of 2019 to remain true to their faith.

“As statistics show after graduation over 70 percent of the graduating class leaves the church. For our 25 graduates that’s 18 of us,” he said. “I want to challenge our class today to not let this be true of us. I know one thing when difficult times come in your life— which they will — having Jesus Christ to fall on for support is greater than anything in this world.”

Jordan Deane of the local group The Deanes, and a UCA graduate, performed.

“Now is when life smacks you in the face. All the real stuff happens now. There will be a lot of choices … what to do, what not to do, where to go where not to go,” Deane said. “No matter what you do … choose life. Life is not a thing or it it’s a person. Jesus said ‘I am the truth, the way, the life’ … for every decision choose Christ.”

Valedictorian KayLee Shipp read a poem by Michael Josephson: “ Take pride in how far you’ve  come. Have faith in how far you can go. But don’t forget to enjoy the journey.”
