Pearl Lillard Garcia, 96, of Orange, Va., passed away peacefully on May 16, 2019, at UVA Medical Center. She was born on February 2, 1923, to Claude and Ira Leigh Weaver Lillard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Garcia; her daughter, Sherry Hobart; two brothers, Herbert Lillard and Reuben Lillard; and a sister, Marylee Lillard Carpenter. Her family was her life and she was known fondly as Abuela to all her grandchildren and their friends. Her fond memories of her time during World War II, working for the FBI in Washington, D.C., working at Virginia Metal in Orange, and then working and retiring from Sperry Marine in Charlottesville, all contributed to the person she was. During her time in Washington, she developed her high regard for our American soldiers. Surviving Pearl are her daughter, Sally Hobart Napier and husband, Edward, of Madison; her grandchildren, Angela Rothwell (Stacy) of Richmond, Scott Napier (Joyce) of Chantilly, Jeff "Wolfie" Hensley (Karen) of Unionville, Keith "Chin" Hensley (Stephanie) of Orange, and Tammy Hall Eppard (Duane) of Ruckersville; nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Claude Lillard Jr. (Virginia) of Madison; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Lillard of Culpeper. A special Thank You goes to all the staff at Dogwood Village Senior Living that lovingly cared for her during her short stay; and, also, to the doctors and nurses at UVA who gave so much support and care to her and her family. God bless all of you. A memorial service will be held at Robinson River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Brightwood, Va., at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2019, officiated by Pastor Johnny Hawkins.
