I feel that the county’s decision to close the after school program will put many parents and children in a difficult situation. In addition, while the county granted parents two alternatives for child care for after their program closes, many parents will still be faced with a tough decision.
The two options that were presented lacked both capacity for the number of children needing after school care as well as transportation to and from the elementary school.
For many of the parents, being affected by this decision from county, they have no other options.
In my opinion, I think the county should’ve reached out to the community, before making their decision, to ensure that proper compensation for the loss of the after program was addressed.
In regard to the backlash the county has received from the families being affected I believe that it is completely justified considering for a lot of people this was the only thing keeping their careers and families intact.
