My name is Philip Hollis I am a rising senior at William Monroe High School. This will be my fifth year playing for the Dragon Football Team; I would like to thank the many teachers and coaches who have been a part of my life. A special thank you to the coaching staff at Monroe for helping shape me into the young man I have grown into. I have learned through my coaches the importance of mentoring the young players “To Never Give Up.” Our Coach Jon Rocha stresses the importance of “family.” Greene is not just my community it is my family.
My parents taught me at an early age to always respect others and to give to those in need. I have been a part of the 4th of July committee in Greene for many years volunteering, my time to help set up and tear down for the events. For the past five years I have volunteered with Grace Greene Alliance-Church helping distribute Thanksgiving meals to families throughout Greene. I have also been a part of Toy Lift Charities Greene County for many years.
Last year I discovered that four families living in Greene County had fallen on tough times, and I along with my sister spearheaded our own Christmas drive to ensure that these families had clothes and toys on Christmas morning.
In addition to my volunteer work I recently completed my Emergency Medical Technician training with the Stanardsville Volunteer Rescue Squad.
I, Philip Hollis, am honored and very proud to be part of Red, White, Blue ‘n Greene 4th of July celebration as your Junior Grand Marshal 2019.
