On behalf of Feeding Greene Inc. I would like to thank the Ruckersville, Stanardsville, Dyke and Quinque post offices for their support and participation in the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive that took place on Saturday, May 11.

Every year on the Saturday before Mother’s Day Greene County residents have the opportunity to fill a bag with groceries (canned and dry goods) and leave on their mail box for their carriers to pick up. This food then goes to local food pantries to feed needy families. This effort of course would not be successful without the participation of all the many citizens of Greene County that so generously supported this event by donating over 4,000 pounds of food this year! Thank you, Greene County residents.

We would also like to thank all those volunteers that helped with the pickup, transport and delivery of all of this food on Monday, May 13. Special thanks to Ruckersville Post Office’s Darren Barry and volunteers, Lenny and BJ Coyner for coordinating the delivery of this food to the pantry and to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department’s six amazing, hardworking trustees for unloading and sorting all of this food for us. And to all of our loyal volunteers (you know who you are) that so faithfully show up every week to help with pickup, delivery and sorting of food, I love you all and am so thankful for your dedication to helping families in our community.
