Warm and sunny weather brought plenty of people out for the third annual Wool & Wine Festival Saturday at Hoover Ridge Park. The festival, hosted by the Madison County Parks and Recreation Authority and sponsored by Roy Wheeler Realty Company, showcased local wineries and Virginia made wool products.

The event featured a variety of wool products, from yarn and fleeces to finished products like blankets, clothing, rugs and dog leashes from vendors across the Commonwealth and runs in conjunction with the Hoover Ridge Sheep Dog Trials. This year’s trial, which was sanctioned by the Virginia Border Collie Association and the United States Border Collie Handlers’ Association, attracted more than 100 dogs from up and down the east coast. The trial offered classes for novice handlers and novice dogs in addition to the open and ranch classes.

Organizer Wink Mason said the Madison County trial is becoming very popular and one of the largest in the region.

“This event just keeps growing,” said Mason. “This year our entries were full in March.”
