The Madison County Parks and Recreation Authority is planning a full day of holiday festivities next Saturday.

The third annual S’mores with Santa event will be held along with a holiday bazaar and a new 5K run to benefit first responders battling cancer.

The Fully Involved 5K is a benefit for first responders organized by Madison County High School Senior Alex Kreh. Kreh has organized the 5K race to benefit first responders with cancer as his Blue Ridge Virtual Governor’s School project. The race is open to all, but will feature a special division for first responders. Registration for the event is $20. Online registration is available through the Hoover Ridge website, hooverridge.com.

Meanwhile, Lindsay Von Herbulis, recreation coordinator at the Madison County Parks and Recreation Authority, said the group has decided to add the holiday bazaar to the schedule to provide more for people of all ages. S’mores with Santa is geared for younger children. Adding the bazaar with crafts, goods and food items from a variety of vendors adds another family-friendly activity.

“We really wanted to add this for teens and adults,” said Von Herbulis. “We have a little bit of everything that day. There is something for everyone in the family.”

Several vendors, including MooThru Ice Cream, Scentsy, Color Street, Paparazzi, Our Brilliant Shadows and the Thornton River Orchard and Market have committed to the bazaar.

The signature event of the day is S’mores with Santa. Kids will have the opportunity to work on craft projects and enjoy soup and hot cocoa with Santa then sit by the campfire and make s’mores.

The Fully Involved 5K starts at 10 a.m., the bazaar starts at noon and runs until 5:30 p.m. when S’mores with Santa starts. Santa arrives at the park at 6 p.m. and will meet with children on the stage at Hoover Ridge and will join the kids at 7:30 p.m. for s’mores by the campfire. Both the bazaar and S’mores with Santa are free and open to all.
