For the first time in many years, Dr. Johanna Huijssoon has seen more cows and corn fields than cars on her commute to work. Huijssoon recently joined Dr. Oscar Vega at Madison Family Dentistry after more than 30 years of practicing in the Washington, D.C. area.


Throughout her life Siri Zwemke has worked in many fields and along the way has worn many hats. Zwemke has been a legal secretary, caterer, teacher, mom, animal rescuer and with the March 2019 release of her book, “Rescue Meez,” has just added author to her long list of accomplishments. 


By all accounts, Margaret Gilley, the winner of the 2019 Madison Award, has been a vital part of the Madison community for over 40 years. 


Brenda Lyddane has shared her love of music with three decades of Madison children. It’s that passion for her subject that led to Lydanne being named Madison County Public School’s 2019 Teacher of the Year.


At the Rapidan Volunteer Fire Department’s annual banquet in March, the room went still when the time came to honor Shannon Arnold.


Aging Together, the local non-profit geared to providing support for older residents and their families in Culpeper, Orange, Fauquier, Madison and Rappahannock Counties held the first of six community meetings last week at the Madison County Fire Hall. 

On Friday, March 1 the William Wetsel Middle School Advanced Band, under the direction of Alicia Strickler, and the Madison County Symphonic Band, under the direction of Catherine Weaver, traveled to Fluvanna High School for State Concert Band Assessment. 

Each month, Madison County Public Schools honors one high school student and one employee as the student and employee of the month. Each receives a certificate during the school board meeting and at the end of the school year, the students will honor an employee of their choice at a ceremony.


Each month of the school year, a senior student was honored by the board of supervisors as the senior of the month. Those seniors were then given the opportunity to honor a staff member of their choice who made an impact on their life. The student and their family members attended the banque…

Last week, a retirement celebration was held for Madison County Zoning Administrator Betty Grayson. Hired in 1975, Grayson was employed by the county for more than 40 years.
