A case involving more than a dozen charges involving crimes against children has again been continued.
Last week, Timothy Allen Champ, 30, appeared in Madison County Circuit Court with court-appointed attorney David Randle. In September, a Madison County Grand Jury issued true bills in 17 charges against Champ.
Champ, of Locust Dale, was arrested July 31 at his residence and charged with 10 felonies including five counts of carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old and five counts of indecent liberties with a child. The grand jury added seven additional charges via direct indictments including five charges of carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old, one count of indecent liberties with a child and one count of child solicitation by use of a communications system.
Arraignment, originally set for mid-September, was continued until last week. However, a defense motion to continue the matter was approved, moving the arraignment to Dec. 11 at 9 a.m.
If convicted, Champ faces up to 10 years in prison for each carnal knowledge and indecent liberties charge, plus depending on the circumstances, up to 30 years for the child solicitation charge, according to the Code of Virginia.
