The county has an official zoning map.
Last week, planning commissioners recommended and supervisors approved an official county zoning map. The map was created using the county’s GIS system and shows parcel specific zoning designations. The county has eight zoning districts which guide permitted and special use land activities, building setbacks, minimum lot sizes and more.
County planner Ligon Webb said 85 percent of the county falls within the A1 agriculture zone or the C1 conservation zone. He said the map will need to be revised every two to three years to capture changes.
The map will be located in the building and zoning office as well as online at https://www.madisonco.virginia.gov/zoning/webform/zoning-map-ordinances.
The map was approved unanimously following a public hearing in which no one spoke expect for a parcel specific question regarding a homeowners association.
