A missing Brightwood senior has been found.

James “Jimmy” Jenkins, 84, was reported missing to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. Jenkins was last seen Feb. 4 around 6 p.m.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office was notified by the US Park Service that a blue pickup had been discovered with a deceased male inside. The vehicle was over an embankment at mile marker 23 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Nelson County. The man has been identified as Jenkins.

“The Madison County Sheriff’s Office would like to express our heartfelt sympathy to the Jenkins family, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers,” Weaver said. “We would also like to thank the public for your assistance in searching for Mr. James “Jimmy” Jenkins.”

Aerial searches were conducted late last week, by both professional drone operators and a Virginia State Police Aircraft. A missing endangered media alert was issued by state police Feb. 12 noting that the disappearance poses a credible threat to Jenkins’ health and safety as determined by the investigating agency.

Weaver said Jenkins’ had also been added to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.
