The cross country teams travelled to Clarke County last week to compete against both Clarke and Luray. The course was shortened to a 4K course because of the very unseasonable hot temperatures. However, the heat didn’t appear to phase the Mountaineers as both teams competed very well.

The boys team secured a team victory with the very low score of 26, Luray was second with 30 and the home team finished in third with 51. Lucas Vailhe was the overall winner followed by teammates Mitchell Dyer (second), Isaiah Batman (third), Colby Messinger (fifth), and Luke Beeler (10th) who were the top five scoring runners for Madison. Edgar Teo-Abrego and Carter Rees finished in top seven for Madison.

The girls team also continued their winning ways last week by beating both Clarke and Luray. Madison finished with a team total of 28 points, ahead of Clarke with 34 and Luray with 75. Kate McLearen was the overall winner and was followed closely behind by teammate Abby Patterson in second place. Emma Kate Jenkins (fifth), Leah Henshaw (sixth), and Mary Wingate (14th) rounded out the top scoring five for Madison. Jennifer Johnson and Amy Chung finished in the top seven for Madison.
