The Madison County Girls Cross Country team captured the Bull Run District Championship, winning a district title for the Mountaineers for the first time since 2002. The team has performed well all season long and put it on full display last week at the Bull Run District Championship meet in New Market. Madison won with the low score of 40 securing the team victory. Kate McLearen lead the girls team finishing as overall District runner-up, followed by All District (Top 15) teammates Abby Patterson (4th), Emma Kate Jenkins (sixth), and Leah Henshaw (ninth). Mary Wingate finished 19th overall and rounded out the scoring for Madison.
Jennifer Johnson and Grace McCain also competed well in the district meet.
The boys cross country team finished in a strong second place at the Bull Run District Championship. The team performed very well with a team score of 50, just 11 points behind district champion Strasburg. The Boys team performance included four All District performances. Lucas Vailhe (third), Mitchell Dyer (fourth), Luke Beeler (12th) and Colby Messinger (13th) all finished in the top 15. Isaiah Batman (18th) rounded out the scoring for the Mountaineers. Joseph Chung and Edgar Te-Abrego also turned strong performances for the team.
Both teams will compete next in the Region 2A Championship meet on Nov. 6 in New Market.
