The Lady Mountaineers cross country team completed a very successful 2019 season and finished third at the Class 2 VHSL State Cross Country Championship meet. The brisk, cold temperatures at Green Hill Park in Salem didn’t slow down sophomores Abby Patterson (12th, 20:35) and Kate McLearen (13th, 20:43) who garnered all-state honors to the lead the Mountaineers. Junior Emma Kate Jenkins (32nd, 21:40), freshman Leah Henshaw (40th, 21:52), and sophomore Mary Wingate (56th, 22:25) also ran very well and completed the scoring for Madison. Jennifer Johnson and Grace McCain also competed well for the team. The 2019 Bull Run District Champions and Region 2B Runner-ups Lady Mountaineers finished with a team total of 120 points, behind only Radford (first, 50 points) and Glenvar (second, 87 points) and 20 points ahead of rival Clarke County (fourth, 140 points) and eight other qualifying Class 2 schools.
