Mildred Wood "Millie" Garrison, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister and friend peacefully completed her earthly journey at home in Earlysville, Virginia, on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at age 90. Mildred was born in Earlysville, Virginia, on May 7, 1929, to the late Leroy and Nellie Wood. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Sprouse; and five siblings, Lutie Mooney, Arlene Huff, Matrona Wood, Virginia Brown, and Nettie Garrison. She is survived by her loving husband of seventy years, James W. "Bill" Garrison; two daughters, Regina Ingram and her husband, Dave, and Martha Mack and her husband, R.D. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Amanda Ingram and her husband, Mark, Melissa McCulloch and her husband, Byron, and Stacey Sprouse. She was the proud great-grandmother of William McCulloch. Mildred is also survived by one sister, Jeanette Wood; and two brothers, Maurice Wood and his wife, Ann, and Leroy Wood and his wife, Ester. Mildred graduated from Broadus Wood High School in 1947 and began her career in the printing industry at The Michie Company the next week. There was never an idle moment with Mildred and her primary focus was always her family. She enjoyed the outdoors where she might be seen driving the tractor on the farm or working in the garden. Indoors she was always cooking, sewing, reading a good book, or working puzzles. One of her favorite activities was to gather family or friends for a feast she had prepared. Mildred was a quiet, gentle woman who was the epitome of selflessness, strength and patience. Her shining example and pearls of wisdom will always be treasured. Mildred lived a faith filled life and was a lifelong member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Earlysville. The burial service will take place at Holly Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at 1 p.m. followed by a celebration of life and reception at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont at www.hopva.org or Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, 550 Buck Mountain Road, Earlysville, VA 22936.
